A Good Alternative to Prescription Medication

What’s the healthy weight for your dog? Do not underestimate their importance. Verify your dog’s optimal weight to know if he is overweight or underweight. The faster you figure out its weight, the sooner it will eat healthily and get off medications. A healthy weight means that your dog is neither overweight nor underweight.

The first thing you want to look at is their body mass index (BMI). The index measures how much weight a dog’s body carries compared to its height. Small dogs (under 20 pounds) with a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 are overweight. A BMI of 25 or higher is obese. A healthy weight for your dog is somewhere in the middle of the heavy BMI range.

Measure your dog’s neck, neck circumference, and body circumference. These values can give you a good idea of whether your pets are getting fatter or thinner. If they are growing slimmer, they are likely not getting enough exercise and maybe some medication type.

What is the Best Medication?

Dogs should receive the proper medication to reduce signs of arthritis and improve their quality of life. When treating arthritis, there are many medications to choose from. If you are concerned that your dog may be obese, you need to decide on the best remedy to give your dog.

The medications to consider they include glucosamine and chondroitin. These medications are fat-soluble. They help increase joint fluid and remove waste from the joints. They also help treat Osteoarthritis and improve joint mobility. However, not all medications are suitable for your dog.

The last thing you want to do is give your dog medication that is heavy metal soluble. Heavy metal soluble medications will cause your dog to become more susceptible to arthritis and other osteoarthritic diseases. Many dogs take the medication dosage guidelines, but some have come back with arthritis and have taken the medication in higher amounts, which may have caused further damage to their joints.

Daily exercise

Walking is an excellent activity to give your dog daily exercise. Walking helps their joints. You should give them the right medicine according to the way that your dog’s arthritis is. If it is affecting the hips, then you can give your dog prednisone.

If it is affecting the knees, then you will need to give them prednisone or dexamethasone. Depending on how much medicine you are offering, your dog will depend on the required dosage. Don’t forget that your dog will also need more exercise than you need to be safe. Ensure to give them their medication, and they take their walk every day!

Determine the best medication to give your dog and how much is best for your dog as you decide how you will follow the medication directions. Remember that you are their caregiver. Keep them happy and healthy!
